Best Celebrity Makeovers
It's that time of year when every magazine lists the best and worst stars of 2008. Who's the sexiest, best dressed, highest paid, or simply who is the hottest celebrity? I've been checking out every magazine, television show, and website. I have seen so many pictures of Brangelina, Jennifer Aniston, John Mayer, Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake, Madonna and their cronies that my eyes are permanently crossed. Yes, each one of them is more gorgeous and/or handsome than the next. Whether it's because they have a beautiful face, perfect body, great smile, or a combination of the above, they all have "star" quality.
Did you ever notice what these chosen few looked like before they became household names? In most cases they didn't look that much different from you or me. Their movie star looks evolved over time. They have had makeover after makeover after makeover. You, too, can look like the a star on the cover of a magazine. Star quality can be acquired. Just as they do, we have to work at it, and can borrow a few tips from our celebrity friends who have undergone these transformations.
Madonna has been around so long that we have forgotten what she looked like when she rolled around the stage singing "Like a Virgin" at the first MTV awards.
She was a bit, dare I say, chubby, and not nearly as refined as she looks now. I am not going to begin to guess if she has had cosmetic surgeries, and if so, what kinds (not my area of expertise!), but she has undergone many famous transformations. We have seen her body become more taut with each passing year, her hair go from blond to brown to blond again, from long to short, and from imitation Marilyn Monroe to dominatrix. She is constantly reinventing herself and, except for a few missteps, she always looks great.

Jennifer Aniston's recent photo spread for GQ confirmed the fact that she is one of the hottest women on the planet.
Do
you remember what she look like when "Friends" first started? Her
voluminous hair was shades darker, her trademark hairstyle did not
exist, and she looked much more like her character Rachel, the wacky
girl who lived next door. Every season she had a mini-makeover and
became more and more glamorous. She layered her hair, turned it into a
honey brown with burnished gold highlights, married Brad Pitt in real
life and became a fashion and beauty icon. Next came the divorce of the
century and she became a total glam queen. She blossomed during her
relationship with Vince Vaughn. Her beauty totally bloomed when she
fell head over heels in love with John Mayer and became a
no-doubt-about-it blonde.
Perhaps the greatest makeover of all is Nicole Kidman.
Flash
back to her first film, "Days of Thunder." Nicole had curly red hair
and a fuller face. She often wore straw hats, Laura Ashley-like clothes
and very much looked like a beauty from Down Under. At that point in
time, Nicole's main concern was to look natural. She once came to see
me for natural-looking highlights. I gave her barely-there highlights
that looked like natural nuances of her own hair and were only
detectable in the brightest sun. She was so nervous about the color
change that it took many conversations to convince her that the
highlights were barely noticeable. Now I smile to myself every time I
see her with her new Hollywood blond hair. What a difference a
marriage, passing time, and a few makeovers can make. She has cemented
her place as a Hollywood A-list actor and sovereign of the award shows'
red carpet.
On a totally different note, I have to mention Matt Lauer.
Matt
probably underwent the biggest makeover of all. Do you remember Matt
before his buzz cut? He had long hair and looked very much like a young
Hollywood star promoting his newest film. When he decided to cut his
hair short (which does wonders for the beginnings of baldness), his
haircut made more news than George Clooney's Caesar cut. Initially it
raised more than a few eyebrows, but soon received overwhelming
accolades. Kudos to you, Matt, for being bold enough to make the
change. By the way, I think he always looks great and is probably the
best-dressed man on television today.
Makeovers are for everyone. There is no one so beautiful or so handsome that they couldn't use a little fine tuning. Learn from the best! To be the best you can be, always be aware of the possibility of change.
Happy New Year to all!

Is there a rule regarding the proper side to part your hair for males and females? What do you recommend for little boys, say, 10 years old? He wants his hair longer and his dad and I disagree about which side the part should be on.
