Summer Hair
It’s that time of the year again. You know, summer, when everyone looks great. This is the time of beautiful sun-kissed hair, bouncing natural waves, and hair that looks like it just falls into the perfect place. Fuzzy hair doesn't seem to exist. There is not a split end in sight.
Okay, ladies, let's get back to the real world. I think people do look better in the summer, but it does take a little work. Hopefully we are more relaxed, outdoors a bit more than usual, and maintaining a kicked-back attitude. This is not always the situation. There is nothing more horrible than looking around and seeing everyone with the perfect summer 'do while you are feeling like a summer don't.
Here are some easy ways to look great all summer long.
I love the expression "kissed by the sun". I mean who would not want to be kissed? Being kissed by the sun is to brighten your hair as if the sun was always shining directly over head. Your hair becomes about half a shade lighter and your natural highlights become brighter. This all sounds great, but the truth of the matter is that being exposed to the sun can severely dry and damage your hair. Does this mean you should skip the "sun-kissed" look? No way! Here is my simple formula for people with natural dark blond hair or lighter. This is a hair color bath that will "kiss" your hair and keep it in good condition. Mix a permanent single process light neutral blond hair color together with equal parts of your favorite conditioner. Work mixture through hair for five minutes and rinse. Your hair will look kissed by the sun and be in great condition. People with light brown hair should stick with highlights. They will lighten your hair in a very natural way and prevent any brassy tones. The tip to keep highlights natural looking is to maintain depth at the roots. The best way to create this illusion is to make the highlights a bit more subtle at the part and around your hairline. This will give you a surfer look and a graceful grow out. What more could a person want?
Sometimes the sun can fade your hair color, especially the reds and browns. When this happens, your hair color actually looks dull even though it is lighter. The solution to this problem is a semi-permanent hair color. That will refresh your hair color, add shine, and condition your hair. Semi-permanent colors tend to be dark. Be sure to do a preview test of the color on a small section of hair at the nape of your neck. This will show you the results before you start.
Now we should talk about summer hair styles.
The first step is a great hair cut. When you have a good cut it doesn't matter how the wind blows. Your hair will always maintain its shape. Blow drying hair in the summer is a bore. Skipping the blow dryer will keep your hair in better condition and look more like "beach" hair.
If your hair doesn't look right on its own, you can give yourself a summer set. Here's how! Let your hair dry almost naturally. Now take large section of your hair, make twists in your hair and shape in large pin curls. Pin in place for one half hour and then gently take down pin curls. The result is loose flowing waves. If you like more of a romantic ringlet look, dread lock twists are the answer. When your hair is damp dry, add a light foaming gel. Twist hair in dread lock shape. When hair is completely dry, loosen the twist with your fingers. Soft ringlet-like spiral curls will occur. You can do the summer sets on day old hair. Sometimes they look prettier and last longer on hair that is not freshly shampooed.
Summer is here. Don't make a fuss about your hair. Love your summer ‘do. Have fun!

I lone Louis and always listen up when I hear his name. I am very interested in the exact formula for the summer hair color. One I saw was equal portions of neutral blond one step hair color and conditioner. Another one was equal? parts color, conditioner, & shampoo. ??? What would Louis do without you? Thanx for a reply.
Where can I find the naughty (knottie)knots? Thank you
Please send me the formula for the sun kissed look...love it! Thanks!
I like this site!
Rilla,
The hair color could be mixed with shampoo or conditioner not both. The conditioning formula is more appropriate for delicate hair.
Good Luck,
Louis

Liz,
The formula is 1 part neutral blond permanent hair color mixed with equal parts shampoo or conditioner. Leave on hair for 5 minutes or less.
Enjoy the new you,
Louis
Hi. I thought that the hair color done on the first girl came out so nice. Did you use any foils in doing this or did you just apply the mixture and wait five minutes? It looks as though the blond pieces were painted on or highlighted with foils because the blonde pieces seem to be in the perfect places. How could that have happened if there was no highlighting done? I am very anxious to know. Please write soon. Also, how would you describe that color blonde in words? Thanks in advance.
I would like to know if the sun kissed formula (permanent hair color mixed with conditioner) is applied to dry or damp hair. Thanks.
thanks..
I have so much grey but still have the 'dirty blonde' hair color as well. What do you recommend to brighten my hair? Will the 50/50 of conditioner with blonde hair color still work or ??? what is best. My hair is baby fine.
Hey Louis, Whassup? Hey, I have just discovered your blogs, and love it. But I have been noticing that a lot of pages of blogs ending with a great question concerning fine, and sometimes not so thick hair. Well that describes me. I would love to see a whole article with concerns and tips for just "fine" hair,...cuts,styles,products to use, most interested in a soft, but with manageable hold-finishing spray. My hair falls right in my face if I don't spray the heck out of it. lol I am sitting even, at my PC all day,...that doesn't matter. I don't want bangs anymore, and don't have them. Just maybe a few free falling strands that you had mentioned in another blog. Thats ok, but what about the rest of it. Thanks for the tip ahead of time, and will be looking for an article for fine hair, for us fine women! Luv ya, Vicki xo
